Main Church of Castanheira de Pera
Booking
Dedicated to S. Domingos, the Main Church of Castanheira de Pera was built around 1700.
Initially, the Church had many traces of the 18th century baroque, but with the alterations and remodeling it underwent over the years, it ended up losing part of those features traits.
Despite this, this monument continues to constitute an interesting architectural ensemble and is distinguished by the adjacent bell tower, the neoclassical-style façade opened by a straight portal and topped by an oculus, the main altar in gilded carving, the ceiling divided into three naves, for the hand-painted tiles and for a piece carved in stone, from the 16th century, which represents the Holy Trinity.
It is also worth mentioning the panoramic view that the Church of Castanheira de Pera provides, as it is located in one of the highest points of the village, as well as the wide staircase that precedes it, the stone cross and its churchyard shaded by century-old trees.
