Preserved Village of Soito
Booking
According to known historical data, the Village of Soito existed during the time of D. Dinis, with three households. At the beginning of the 20th century, it had 51 inhabited houses, followed by a period of significant depopulation and abandonment, intensified by the 1991 fire that burned part of the houses.
The trend reversed from the year 2000, with the recovery and enhancement of much of the collective heritage by the municipality of Góis (such as renovated streets and tree planting) and private schist houses.
According to oral tradition, the chapel of São Pedro dates back to the 16th century, preserving its interior almost intact.
Located between the Ceira River and two streams, where several mills and an olive oil press once complemented the intense agricultural activity that existed there, it also featured artisanal and commercial activities (tavern, tailor, fabric shop, masons, farriers, and animal castrators, etc.).
Currently, in addition to the São Pedro chapel, it offers visitors the Museum Space integrated into the Community House, the old fountain, the old threshing floor area, the Tank, a natural swimming pool, and other small corners to discover within its interior.
