The Cerro da Candosa Walkways traverse one of the most enigmatic spots in the Parish of Vila Nova do Ceira, in the Municipality of Góis.

The quartzite cliffs, where the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Candosa stands, are part of the ridge that crosses the entire region, stretching between the Serra do Penedo, more commonly known as the Penedos de Góis, and the Serra do Buçaco.

The rocky gorge, which over time has been worn down, washed, and shaped by the Ceira River, culminates in a rare and beautiful river canyon – the Cabril or Portas do Ceira – a place where the river seems to have cut through a rocky ridge.

Portas do Ceira is one of the most beautiful natural treasures of the Central Region. The steep gorge walls are used for extreme sports, and the top of the hill has been linked, since time immemorial, to the Legend of Senhora da Candosa.
