Monastery of Santa Maria de Semide

The monastery, initially male, has its first documented reference in 1154. In 1183, it was established as a female convent (while remaining a monastery).

In the 16th century, it was the target of an attempted reform by the Cistercian nuns. The 16th-century lower cloister and the late 17th-century church stand out.

The coffered ceiling of the chancel is decorated with representations of the life of São Bento. The gilded woodwork of the main altarpiece is particularly noteworthy.

The exterior portal reflects the Baroque style, featuring a medallion with the image of São Bento and the shield of the Order, surrounded by scrolls.
