Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Piedade de Tábuas

Booking

Dating back to the second half of the 16th century, at the foot of a slope of the Serra da Lousã, lies the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Piedade de Tábuas, set in a landscape of rare beauty.

The foundation and the founder of the chapel, Domingos Pires, a wealthy farmer, are shrouded in a curious legend of apparitions and angel sculptors.

In the early hours of November 15, 1998, a violent fire irreparably destroyed the chapel, along with much of its interior contents.
This was followed by a restoration project, inaugurated in 2005.

Here, on the Sunday following September 8, festivities are held in honor of Nossa Senhora da Piedade.
