With architectural notes that call attention (namely the pediment that stands out on the main façade and the railing of the front wall), the building that today is associated with the headquarters of the Sport Castanheira de Pera e Benfica, initially served the community as «Grémio Castanheirense», one of the most important associations in Castanheira de Pera.

The Grémio (or Clube) Castanheirense was founded on July 4, 1926 and quickly became the meeting place for Castanheirenses, with its stage hosting various amateur and professional theater groups.

However, as time went by, the Association became abandoned and its facilities ended up being used, firstly for the new Externato de S. Domingos and, after the 25th of April, as the headquarters of the local sports club - Sport Castanheira de Pera e Benfica.
