Mucela Bridge
Booking
The Mucela Bridge has always been associated with significant moments in national history due to its strategic location on regional and national roads.
There are records indicating a Roman bridge in the place of Mucela / “Murcella,” through which one of the most important roads passed, connecting Coimbra / Aeminium to Bobadela / Municipium, near Oliveira do Hospital.
The construction of the current bridge is believed to have begun in 1298 by Pedro Salgado, treasurer of King D. Dinis, replacing the much lower Roman bridge that existed downstream.
It is also mentioned that King D. Afonso II, in 1220, crossed this bridge over the Alva, citing a settlement with twelve households, which is believed to be the place of Ponte de Mucela.
