The church dedicated to Santa Maria is a building remodeled in the transition between the 18th and 19th centuries.

However, we know that already in the 16th century, the village had a church and was the administrative center of the "Lands of Poyares". The facade and the tower, which rises to the left, are linked by architectural elements.

The corners are connected on the facade by a straight entablature that continues on the tower, completing the main body. The gable line is topped with a triangular pediment.

The building also features a curved lintel door and pediment. It has three altars. The main one, from the first third of the 18th century, is gilded and shows on each side of the large Throne two Solomonic columns, with a niche between each pair.

At the top of the arch is a shield in the same gilding: divided, on the left, the arms of Portugal; on the right, the insignia of the University of Coimbra.
