Church of São Miguel

Today, slightly removed from the center of the village of São Miguel de Poiares, this is a very old church in the municipality, with one of its two towers bearing the date 1742.

The building is architecturally simple but rare in the region for its two towers on the facade and for having both the nave and the main chapel covered with smooth vaults.

The dressed stones of this church come from this parish, where there was activity in quarrying for construction and for millstones to grind flour, "the red sandstones of the Serra de Alveite."
