Built with shale, rescued from the Serra da Lousã, it owes its name to the predominant activity of the village that has endured through time: shepherding.

This connection to the local fauna, with herds of goats and the presence of deer, roe deer, and wild boars, is a constant reminder of the bond between humans and nature, beautifully illustrated in the experiences and traditions of Chiqueiro.
