It is an important Marian Shrine situated on the hill opposite the Castle of Arouce.

There are three chapels, with the oldest and largest being the Chapel of São João, built between the 13th and 14th centuries.

It features a collection of sculptures from the 15th and 16th centuries, carved in Ançã stone: São João Baptista, São João Evangelista, and São Paio, as well as a 17th-century tile altarpiece.

Completing the ensemble are the Chapel of Agonia, built in the 18th century, and the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Piedade, located at the top of the hill with its whitewashed walls contrasting against the dark green backdrop of the landscape.

It is in this chapel that the image of Nossa Senhora da Piedade is housed, which only descends to the village in times of public calamity and on the occasion of the creation of the Irmandade de Nossa Senhora.

The image remains in the Parish Church for about a month and then returns to its sanctuary in a grand procession.
