Oliveira Guimarães Family House
Booking
Casa Família Oliveira Guimarães is an 18th century manor house where we can discover the history of a family over seven generations. Probably built on an old residence with a fortified appearance, this house has been designated by the local people as the “Casa do Castelo” (Castle House) for many decades.
Ordered to be built in 1770 by the judge Manuel Pereira da Silva Caldas, who left it abandoned for about 20 years, it was later acquired by D. Vicente Velasques Sarmento de Alarcão.
Over the following generations, the house expanded its collection of works of art, of the most diverse types, which reflect many of the most relevant episodes in Portuguese history.
This building is included in the Route of the French Invasions of the Region of Coimbra, due to the stay of General Jean-Louis Reynier and his troops, who also left their mark on this building.
