Castle of Germanelo
Booking
About 3 kilometers west of the village of Penela, at an altitude of about 360 metres, we find the Castle of Germanelo, a fortification built by King Afonso Henriques. Germanelo thus becomes a municipality in 1142.
Mirroring this mount, we find another, equally conical, about two kilometers apart, both located in the middle of the Rabaçal Valley. These hills have been called “Germanelos”, at least since the 12th century. The term means “little brothers” or “twins”, due to the notorious similarity of their complexion.
Currently, little remains of this structure, however, it still constitutes a significant testimony of local, regional and national history.https://www.instagram.com/explore/locations/224562614397836/castelo-de-germanelo/
