Pedra da Ferida Waterfall

Booking

Its peculiar name results from the popular interpretation of a natural phenomenon in which the rocks, rich in ferrous metals, acquire reddish and orange tones, due to continuous contact with water.

"Pedra Ferida, Cascata
(wounded stone, cascade)

Mistério de água pura
(mystery of pure water)

A água nunca lá seca
(the water never runs dry)

A ferida nunca se cura."
(the wound never heals)

Indeed, the Pedra Ferida Waterfall, over 20 meters high, has a flow throughout the year, so the rocks never lose their characteristic hue.

This waterfall is located in Serra do Espinhal and has initial access through Ribeira da Azenha, in the center of Espinhal.

To visit this place, the visitor will have to take a linear pedestrian path of a few hundred meters, along which he will be able to observe a rebuilt water mill, popular in the region, a living example of an important technological instrument,  essential for the survival of populations and for the economy until the middle of the last century.
